In China, Summer 2010

Welcome! For those of you who don’t know, my name is Alvin Sng. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at UC Davis. I currently work as a web developer for ASUCD-CreativeMedia at UC Davis and I love to make websites! I am also the creator of the Open Source software “Cloud Storage”. I have a long history in technology and web development. Since high school I have created several large scale web projects including the official high school website, a social networking website, and even a learning management system. Throughout high school I began to experiment with an array of new technologies which basically opened me to world of programming. Nowadays I spend a lot of my free time developing software or working with other clients in need of a company website. And yes, if you need a website for your business please check out my design website for my resume/portfolio. Aside from the “tech stuff”, I love traveling and the outdoors. More specifically I love hiking, biking, running and camping. Check out my Picasa page for latest photos.

Personal Statment about my acomplishments

At the 2010 CES in Las Vegas

PHP, HTML, CSS, SQL, JS: All of these acronyms are so familiar to me that they’re imprinted in my brain. As a kid I would have never imagined where I would be when I turned seventeen. Today I don’t know where I’ll be when I turn twenty-seven. But I have always known one quality about myself: my curiosity to learn and solve puzzles. I find this, above all, to be more important than all of the talents I possess today.

From an early age, my passion was for Lego’s, for designing and then building whatever my imagination brought to me. At times I would even carefully plan and sketch out diagrams of how the final product would be. This led me to pursue more challenging and complex hobbies. By the time I was in school, I immediately found math to be thrilling. I became amazed by all the problems in my everyday life that could be solved through the use of math and logic. I loved it; all the puzzles I had in class were challenging me to think in new and diverse ways. Since then math has been my favorite class of all, and I’ve been scoring the ninety-ninth percentile ever since second grade.

By high school, I had a strong understanding of the world from learning literature and from personal experiences. Science became my next favorite subject. I was the only freshman in my school to be taking chemistry that year, and I earned an A. Through my continued advancement I became the only sophomore in the AP Chemistry class. Sophomore year was a year of immense change.

Filming on the Drama set

I felt that I wanted to be someone important, someone that could be useful and bring something to the world. Reading about how inventions have changed the course of history made me want to be an inventor myself. That overall has compelled me to work in the field of technology for the benefit of humanity.

I started the year by signing up to be involved in the school website. On the first day I walked into the classroom with absolutely no experience in web developing, but never would I have thought that after two years of commitment and passion, I would become an expert I have become the webmaster of the school website. I have also created several large project websites including a social networking site and, recently a learning management system.

Looking back though all the long steps I took to reach this point amazes me. Ten years ago, I would never have dreamed that it would be possible for me to accomplish such a task. All the websites I made were simply a series of Lego projects during my childhood, each better than the previous. Now that I have begun to open up my possibilities, I believe that, in the future, I will be able to develop further technology that nobody has thought was possible. I now have a strong passion in my life to achieve the technology company’s common goal: to invent new technology that can improve the lives of people. My everyday accomplishments constantly keep me pursuing my dreams to innovate society.
